Faverolles

A french breed unique with 5 toes

Feathery fun

A beautiful breed that not only has a beard but a muff, feathered feet and 5 toes. We carry the Salmon variety. This dual purpose breed has been around since the 1860's.  Developed in north-central france. The breed was given the name of the latter village.  Faverolles were originally bred as a utility fowl for meat and eggs. Now they are primarily raised for exhibition. They have been since altered in type since the original faverolle utility period.
Faverolles adapt to confinement and free range.  Their eggs are light brown to pinkish and medium in size. They are relatively good layers. The birds are hardy for our Canadian winters. Non flighty birds that are easy to work around and handle. A nice well rounded submissive bird.
