The Hedemora is a Landrace variety of more than 500 years old from forested area of Sweden called Hedemora. A landrace means there is no standard in colors which makes this a very fun breed to keep.
The birds are EXCELLENT winter layers which can adapt to foraging in the winter snow. The heavy down under their feathers keep these WONDROUS birds warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
They come in a variety of colors and look quite prehistoric with their silkie wooly feathers.
Feather type can be normal or wooly which feels like fur and very unique.
Easy to handle friendly birds. Legs can be smooth or wooly with a variety of leg colors. Skin is white, gray or dark depending on their level of pigment. Ear Lobes are red can have tinges of white or bluish cast. Eye color is gold, deep amber or nearly black. Eggs are medium in size, cream coloured or pale brown. Good winter layers, winter hardy birds. The farm also has fibro skinned Hedemora in the flock.
Hardy birds, easy keepers at 4-5 lbs.
Hedemora Lay up to 150 cream to tan eggs per year. They can sometimes go broody but not very often.
Hedemora are cold tolerant birds.
The farm breeds wooly and straight feather. Feathered and non feathered leg.
